Sylvain Gioux, PhD

Intuitive Surgical

Director of Imaging Research at Intuitive Surgical in the research and development department located in the EU headquarter (Aubonne, Switzerland). Specifically, the R&D department in Aubonne is focused on the design & translation of novel imaging & vision solutions and the evaluation of their potential in future products. He is also responsible for managing technical research collaborations in Europe with a focus on optics & imaging and interfacing with the European innovation ecosystem.

Sylvain Gioux is an expert in near-infrared fluorescence imaging, quantitative optical imaging, and their application to image-guided interventions. He has been involved in developing both techniques at a fundamental level and translated them from the bench to the bedside during clinical trials in the USA and Europe.

Head and Neck Surgeon

Expert in head and neck surgery and reconstructive surgery, as well as in oncology of the head and neck and in otolaryngology, Christian Simon has been appointed full professor at UNIL and head of the Otolaryngology Department. -laryngology (ENT) of the CHUV from February 1, 2012.

Sean Wang, PhD

B&W Tek Inc.

Sean Wang is an accomplished entrepreneur, inventor, scientist and engineer. Currently, he is the CEO of B&W TEK Inc, a leading photonic instrument company producing analytical instrumentation, medical systems and lasers.

Sean holds advanced degrees in Physics and Electrical Engineering and is the author of many scientific publications. He holds about 40 US and international patents, with about 20 patent applications pending in the areas of optical instruments, lasers, spectroscopic sensors, and medical devices. He is a member of OSA, SPIE and a fellow of the American Society of Laser Medicine and Surgery. Dr. Wang is the 2014 recipient of the Delaware Bio-technology Industrial Association inventor of year award. He is an adjunct professor and a member of the advisory council at the University of Delaware’s School of Engineering.

Mark Su, PhD

Mark is an upstream product marketer with 15 years of experience developing medical devices from early concept through launch. He lead cross-functional teams which develop products with the right technical requirements, clinical claims, regulatory clearances, and market positioning through a deep understanding of business strategy, customer needs, market trends, and competitive landscapes. His product leadership is informed by experience in corporate strategy, M&A and acquisition integration, and his ability to collaborate effectively with R&D teams comes from a 20-year engineering background.
